Welcome to the Catholic Chaplaincy, Aberdeen.

The Catholic Chaplaincy exists to serve students and staff at the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University. We are situated at 7 High Street, Old Aberdeen; in the heart of the University of Aberdeen campus. The building is home to many groups including the Catholic Society, Society of St Vincent de Paul and The Alpha Course.

At the heart of our community are the Fransiscan Friars who are the chaplains, Fr Jakub and Fr Max. They live a common life so that they may preach the Gospel within the local Church and community.

Weekly mass is celebrated in the historic King’s College Chapel, Old Aberdeen on Sunday evenings at 18:30. Built in 1500, the chapel retains much of its original Catholic furnishings, including the only surviving medieval choir stalls in Scotland. The first Mass was celebrated in the chapel in 1509 and the feeling of being part of an university founded by papal charter is made alive by celebrating Mass around the tomb of Bishop Elphinstone who received that document in Rome in February 1495.

The Blessed Sacrament Chapel, inside the Chapliancy building, is home to weekday mass at 17:30 and is available for private prayer throughout the week.

The Chaplaincy building and The Blessed Sacrament Chapel are open from 10:00, Monday to Friday. Used as a place of respite for students between classes for that essential cup of coffee and chocolate biscuit, all are welcome!
